Alternatives to Violence Project invites you to join in a guided walk among the stories of those who live behind bars and others lock-stepped with them in a retributive justice system.
The evening will include an introduction to the Alternatives to Violence Project, birthed in the wake of the New York prison riots; a project inspired and designed by the Quaker community in collaboration with the inmates of Green Haven Prison and Dr. Bernard Lafayette, friend and colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. There will be a sharing of stories from people on the inside—stories to challenge the enduringly complex prejudices that feed the cycles of imprisonment and stories to propel the humanity within each of us to a place beyond fear. The journey will conclude with an interactive discussion between audience members and a panel that represents the many faces within and at the thresholds of the prison walls.
